Division I is the highest level of intercollegiate athletics in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for basketball teams participating in March Madness. It is composed of the largest and most successful athletic programs in the country, featuring top-tier talent from student athletes who have completed at least two years of academic coursework at their respective institutions. These teams compete in regular season conference play as well as postseason tournaments to determine the national champion. Division I schools are committed to providing a well-rounded educational experience for their students, combining rigorous academics with competitive athletics.
