Disc brake pads are a critical component of automotive disc brakes, working in tandem with the disc brake rotors to stop the vehicle. They are typically made of a heat-resistant friction material, such as ceramic or metallic, which is bonded to a steel backing plate. When the brake pedal is applied, hydraulic pressure forces the brake pads against the spinning disc brake rotors, creating friction and causing the vehicle to slow down or stop. Over time, the friction material on the brake pads wears down, requiring replacement to maintain optimal braking performance.
