The National Championship is the final and most prestigious stage of the College Football Playoff (CFP) within FBS football, itself a part of the broader category of college football, which falls under the even broader category of sports. This championship game determines the top team in college football for that particular season, following a series of playoff games featuring the top four teams as determined by a selection committee. The Heisman Trophy, an annual award given to the most outstanding player in college football, is not directly related to the National Championship, but the two are closely linked, as many Heisman winners have also gone on to lead their teams to National Championship victories.
