Islamic History encompasses the religious, social, and political development of Islam and its followers from the 7th century to the present day. It includes the life of Prophet Muhammad, the revelation and compilation of the Quran, the early Muslim community and the rapid expansion of Islam, the establishment of the Islamic caliphates and empires, the development of Islamic law and theology, the interactions between Islam and other cultures and religions, the colonial encounters and the modern nation-states. It also explores the diverse experiences of Muslims around the world in different historical periods and geographical locations. This subcategory is related to History through its focus on the human past and to Religious History through its examination of the religious dimensions of this past.
