The Olive Ridley Sea Turtle is a species of sea turtle that is easily identified by its distinct olive-green colored carapace, which can grow up to 2 feet in length. They are known for their mass nesting events, also known as "arribadas," where thousands of females come ashore simultaneously to lay their eggs in the sand. Olive Ridley Sea Turtles primarily inhabit warm tropical and subtropical waters in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, but they can be found as far north as the coasts of California and Virginia during their migratory movements. Adults are omnivorous, feeding on a diet that consists of various marine invertebrates such as jellyfish, snails, and crabs. Juveniles tend to feed more on algae and small crustaceans. These sea turtles face numerous threats including habitat loss due to coastal development, bycatch during fishing activities, and the harvesting of their eggs, meat, and shells for human consumption.
