Montane Rainforest
Montane rainforests are found at high elevations, typically above 1000 meters, in tropical mountain ranges. They are characterized by a cool, wet climate and a dense growth of trees and other vegetation. Compared to lowland rainforests, montane rainforests have a higher proportion of evergreen broadleaf trees, as well as a greater diversity of mosses, lichens, and ferns. These forests are also home to many unique and endemic species of plants and animals, adapted to the cool, wet conditions found only in these high-altitude environments. Montane rainforests play a critical role in regulating local climate, protecting soil and water resources, and providing habitat for a diverse array of organisms. They are a key component of the larger category of rainforests, which are themselves a type of forest and a natural wonder found within the broader category of places.
