Networking Equipment

Definition of Networking Equipment as it relates to Electronics, Computers, Computer Peripherals, Computer Accessories

Network Attached Storage (NAS) refers to dedicated file-level computer data storage servers connected to a computer network providing data access to a heterogeneous group of clients. Often, these are marketed to home users and small businesses for private cloud storage purposes. They are typically not used as primary storage for large enterprises where block-level storage is more common, but they can be seen in that role for smaller organizations. NAS devices are flexible and can be configured to provide many services such as a multimedia server, print server, or backup server. They typically support multiple protocols such as NFS, SMB/CIFS, FTP, and WebDAV, making them accessible from a wide variety of clients including Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and UNIX systems.
