Network Attached Storage Devices

Definition of Network Attached Storage Devices as it relates to Electronics, Computers, Computer Accessories, Scanners, Tablet Accessories

Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices are dedicated file-level computer data storage servers connected to a computer network providing data access to a heterogeneous group of clients. Essentially, NAS is an information storage solution that allows multiple users and heterogeneous client devices to retrieve data from a centralized disk capacity. These devices are designed for high data availability and can serve as primary storage or backup storage in both small business environments and home networks. They are typically connected to the network via Ethernet and support common protocols such as NFS, SMB/CIFS, FTP, TFTP and HTTP. NAS devices provide a cost-effective solution for sharing files across multiple computers and platforms while minimizing IT management overhead. They can also be used to host multimedia content, centralize backup tasks, and synchronize data between multiple devices.
