Vodun
Vodun, also known as Voodoo, is an animistic religion that emphasizes the spiritual interconnectedness of all living things. Practitioners believe in a pantheon of deities and spirits, each with their own specific domains and characteristics, who can be communicated with and petitioned for assistance in daily life. Rituals often involve music, dance, and possession trances, as well as offerings to the spirits. Vodun is deeply rooted in West African traditions, particularly those of the Fon people of Benin and Togo, but has also been influenced by Christian and Islamic beliefs due to the transatlantic slave trade. It is practiced predominantly in Haiti, Benin, Togo, and parts of the southern United States.
