Kami

Definition of Kami as it relates to Religions, Atheism, Shinto

Kami refers to the spirits and phenomena that are worshipped in the Shinto religion. They can be found in all things, living and non-living, and are believed to inhabit natural elements such as trees, rocks, and waterfalls. Kami are not considered gods or deities in the same way as those found in Western religions, but are rather powerful forces that must be respected and appeased. In the hierarchy of Religions/Atheism/Shinto/Kami, Kami can be thought of as the specific focus of Shinto belief and practice, which differentiates it from other religions and atheistic viewpoints.
