Nature Preserves
Nature preserves are specially designated areas of land and water, protected by local, state, or national governments, which aim to conserve natural resources, maintain biodiversity, and preserve ecosystems. These areas can include a wide range of environments such as forests, wetlands, grasslands, and coastal zones. They provide critical habitats for numerous plant and animal species, many of which may be endangered or threatened. Nature preserves often offer opportunities for environmental education, research, and low-impact recreational activities like hiking, birdwatching, and photography. They are managed to minimize human impact on the environment, with regulations in place to control access, development, and resource extraction. State parks, while also dedicated to conservation and recreation, often have more developed facilities and offer a wider range of activities than nature preserves. However, they too play a vital role in protecting natural areas and providing opportunities for people to connect with the outdoors.
