Vandals: A term denoting a Germanic people who originated in present-day Poland and migrated westward during the early Middle Ages. Known for their role in the fall of the Roman Empire, they sacked Rome in 455 AD and established a kingdom in North Africa, contributing to the cultural exchange between Europe and Africa. The Vandals were known for their art, particularly their jewelry and glassware, which reflected both Roman and Germanic influences. Their language, Vandalic, was closely related to other East Germanic languages such as Gothic. Despite their reputation as barbarians, the Vandals played a significant role in shaping European culture during the early Middle Ages.
