The Lombards were a Germanic people who originated in southern Scandinavia and migrated southward during the early Middle Ages, eventually settling in present-day northern Italy. They established their own kingdom in Italy, which lasted from the late 6th century until the late 8th century when it was absorbed by the Frankish Empire. The Lombards brought with them their own distinct culture and traditions, which had a significant impact on the development of European culture during this time period.
