Fog Computing refers to extending cloud computing to the edge of an enterprise's network. It brings computation, storage and networking closer to the data sources and users, thus reducing latency, increasing efficiency, and enabling real-time analytics and decision making. This technology is particularly useful in IoT applications, where numerous devices generate vast amounts of data that needs to be processed quickly. Fog Computing complements cloud computing by handling the massive amounts of data generated at the edge, thereby reducing the burden on the cloud infrastructure. It also enhances data security and privacy as data does not need to travel long distances over networks for processing. In this hierarchy, Fog Computing is a subcategory under Artificial Intelligence, which itself falls under Data Science and Technology. Its role in AI is significant as it enables real-time analytics and decision making, key components of many AI applications.
