Equestrianism

Definition of Equestrianism as it relates to Sports, Olympic Games, Summer Olympic Games

Equestrianism, also known as horse riding, is a sport where athletes compete while riding horses. It includes three disciplines—dressage, eventing, and jumping—that require different skills and training. In dressage, riders demonstrate the training of their horse through a series of predetermined movements. Eventing combines dressage, cross-country jumping, and show jumping into one competition. Jumping involves riders guiding their horses over a series of obstacles in an arena. This sport has been part of the Olympic Games since 1912, demonstrating the grace, power, and partnership between horse and rider.
