Definition of Numerical Analysis as it relates to Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics

Numerical Analysis is the study and development of methods for solving mathematical problems using numerical approximation. It's concerned with the design, analysis, and implementation of algorithms to obtain approximate solutions to complex mathematical problems arising in various fields such as physics, engineering, finance, and computer science. The methods used often involve techniques from linear algebra, calculus, optimization, and statistics. In this hierarchy, Numerical Analysis falls under Applied Mathematics which deals with the practical application of mathematical concepts to real-world situations. It is also closely related to Science as it finds use in scientific simulations and modeling, and Statistics due to its focus on numerical methods for statistical estimation and hypothesis testing.
