Bacteriology

Definition of Bacteriology as it relates to Science, Genetics, Virology

Bacteriology is the study of bacteria, their characteristics, classification, and how they interact with humans, animals, plants, and the environment. It encompasses understanding bacterial genetics, metabolism, ecology, pathogenesis, and control measures. In the hierarchy of "Science/Genetics/Virology," Bacteriology falls under Virology as both fields explore microorganisms; however, while Virology focuses on viruses, Bacteriology centers on bacteria. Genetics is also relevant to Bacteriology due to the study of bacterial genetics and its implications for understanding their behavior and potential applications in various industries such as medicine, agriculture, and biotechnology.
