Mutation
Mutation refers to alterations in an organism's genetic material, such as DNA or RNA, that can result in changes to its phenotype and can be inherited by subsequent generations. It is a fundamental concept in the field of genetics and heredity, and plays a crucial role in evolution and adaptation. Mutations can occur spontaneously due to errors during DNA replication or repair, or they can be induced by environmental factors such as mutagenic chemicals or radiation. These changes in genetic material can have varying effects on an organism's traits, depending on the location and nature of the mutation. In this context, it is a subcategory under Heredity which is a field that studies how traits are passed down from one generation to the next, and falls under Genetics which is the study of genes and their role in inheritance, and Science as an overarching parent category.
