Transfer of Development Rights
Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) refers to the relocation of a development right from one property to another, allowing increased density in areas targeted for preservation or conservation. In Urban Design, TDR is a tool used to achieve specific design goals and protect community character while facilitating growth and development in accordance with Real Estate and Land Use Planning principles. By enabling the transfer of development potential from one location to another, it promotes compact urban form, preserves open spaces and historic sites, and encourages sustainable development patterns, ultimately enhancing the overall livability and functionality of urban environments under Urban Design.
