Gender Equality

Definition of Gender Equality as it relates to People, Humanitarians

Gender Equality refers to the principle that individuals should be treated equally and without discrimination regardless of their gender identity, expression, or role. It encompasses the idea that both women and men, as well as non-binary and transgender individuals, should have equal access to resources, opportunities, rights, and protections in all areas of life, including education, employment, healthcare, political participation, and social welfare. Gender equality is a fundamental human right and a necessary condition for achieving sustainable development, peace, and justice. It recognizes the diversity of gender identities and experiences, and seeks to challenge and transform the social norms, attitudes, and structures that perpetuate gender inequality and discrimination. Humanitarians working towards gender equality aim to promote fairness, dignity, and empowerment for all individuals, regardless of their gender, and to create a more just and equitable world.
