Humanities

Definition of Humanities as it relates to Literature, World Literature

Humanities is an academic field dedicated to the study of human culture, including literature, philosophy, history, and the arts. At its core, Humanities seeks to understand what it means to be human by exploring the ways in which humans have expressed themselves throughout history. Literature, as a subfield of Humanities, plays a central role in this endeavor, as it allows us to examine the human experience through the lens of storytelling. World literature, in particular, offers a global perspective on this shared human experience, allowing us to appreciate the diversity and richness of cultural expression across different times and places. Through the study of Humanities, we gain a deeper understanding of ourselves, our culture, and our place in the world, ultimately enriching our lives and fostering empathy and appreciation for others.
