Health Equity

Definition of Health Equity as it relates to Health, Health Education

Health Equity refers to the principle that every individual should have the opportunity to attain their full health potential and that no one should be disadvantaged from achieving this potential because of social position or other socially determined circumstances. It involves addressing avoidable and unfair differences in health outcomes and access to healthcare, and recognizes that these disparities are often influenced by factors such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability status, income, education level, and geographic location. Achieving health equity requires a comprehensive approach that addresses the social determinants of health, promotes equitable policies and practices, and ensures access to high-quality healthcare for all individuals.
