Crossovers

Definition of Crossovers as it relates to Electronics, Audio Equipment, Digital Audio Players

Crossovers are electronic devices used in audio systems to divide the frequency spectrum of an input signal into separate bands, each destined for a specific driver or group of drivers in a loudspeaker system. They ensure optimal sound reproduction by directing appropriate frequencies to the correct drivers, such as tweeters for highs, mid-range speakers for mids, and woofers or subwoofers for lows. This results in a more accurate, balanced, and engaging audio experience. Crossovers come in various forms, including passive and active types, with the latter often incorporated into digital audio players and amplifiers for greater control and flexibility.
