Definition of Health Education as it relates to Education, Library Science Education, Special Education

Health Education encompasses the knowledge and skills necessary to promote and maintain individual and community health. It involves understanding the biological, environmental, psychological, and social factors that influence health and disease, as well as the strategies for preventing and managing illness and promoting wellness. Health education is an interdisciplinary field that draws from the fields of education, library science, special education, and public health to develop and implement effective educational programs and resources. It emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and cultural competence to address the diverse needs of individuals and communities in a variety of settings, including schools, hospitals, clinics, workplaces, and community organizations. Health educators may work as teachers, researchers, administrators, or consultants, and they may be involved in developing curricula, conducting research, providing direct services, or advocating for policies that promote health and wellbeing.
