Marriage and Family Therapy

Definition of Marriage and Family Therapy as it relates to Education, Kindergarten Education, Counseling Services

Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) refers to a branch of psychotherapy that focuses on improving the well-being of couples, families, and other close relationships. MFTs are trained to diagnose and treat mental and emotional disorders within the context of relationships, including marital distress, parent-child conflicts, extended family issues, and interpersonal communication problems. MFT education typically includes coursework in human development, family systems, psychopathology, couples therapy, and group therapy, as well as clinical training under supervision. In contrast to Kindergarten Education, which focuses on teaching young children basic academic skills and socialization, MFT is a specialized form of counseling that aims to enhance the overall functioning and health of relationships.
