Garnet
Garnet belongs to the family of Nesosilicates, which are minerals composed of isolated silicate tetrahedrons. It is most commonly known for its deep red color, but it can also be found in various shades of green, yellow, orange and even some blues. Garnets have a hardness of 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, making them durable enough to be used in jewelry and as decorative stones. They are often cut into cabochons or faceted for use in rings, necklaces, and other types of adornments. Garnets can be found all over the world, but some of the most notable sources include India, Russia, and the United States. In addition to being used as gemstones, garnets are also collected by rockhounds for their beauty and unique characteristics. They are often found in metamorphic rocks such as gneiss and schist, as well as in some igneous rocks like granite. Some people also collect Petoskey stones which is a fossilized coral that has been replaced with Garnet. It's a state stone of Michigan and it's found in the Great Lakes area. Overall, garnet is a versatile and fascinating mineral that has captured the interest of collectors and gem enthusiasts for centuries.
