Substantive Procedures
Substantive Procedures refer to the detailed verification and examination techniques used in an external audit to test the validity and accuracy of financial information presented by a business, based on Accounting Principles. These procedures are designed to identify errors, fraud, or misstatements in the financial statements that could materially affect the company's financial position. They are carried out after risk assessment procedures have been completed and focus on specific transactions, account balances, or disclosures. The objective of substantive procedures is to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements as a whole are free from material misstatement, whether due to error or fraud. Examples of substantive procedures include testing for compliance with laws and regulations, analytical procedures, test of details of transactions and balances, and review of subsequent events.
