Outsider Art
Minimalist Sculpture refers to three-dimensional artworks characterized by simplicity, geometric shapes, and an emphasis on form over representation. It emerged in the mid-20th century as a reaction against abstract expressionism and other complex artistic styles. Minimalist sculptors sought to eliminate any extraneous elements and focus solely on the essentials of their creations. As such, these works often feature clean lines, smooth surfaces, and an emphasis on negative space. They may be made from a variety of materials, including metal, wood, stone, or plastic. Through these minimal forms, artists aim to evoke a sense of calmness and tranquility while encouraging viewers to contemplate the relationship between form and function.
