Tequila

Definition of Tequila as it relates to Beverages, Alcoholic Beverages

Tequila is a distinctive and storied alcoholic beverage, hailing from Mexico and crafted primarily from the blue agave plant. Its rich history is deeply intertwined with the culture and traditions of the Mexican people, making it much more than just a spirit. The production process for tequila involves carefully harvesting and roasting the heart of the agave plant, followed by extraction of its juices which are then fermented and distilled. The resulting liquid is aged in oak barrels to produce a range of expressions, from blanco (unaged) to reposado (rested for up to a year) and añejo (aged at least one year). Tequila's unique flavor profile - often characterized by notes of earthy agave, pepper, and sometimes even hints of citrus or fruit - has earned it a place among the most cherished and respected spirits in the world.
