Vollard Suite
Georges Braque (1882-1963) was a French painter and sculptor who played a pivotal role in the development of Cubism, alongside Pablo Picasso. Braque began his artistic career as a Fauvist, experimenting with bold colors and expressive brushstrokes. However, he soon grew dissatisfied with the movement's emphasis on subjectivity and turned to Cubism, which sought to deconstruct objects into geometric shapes and analyze them from multiple perspectives simultaneously. Braque's Cubist works are characterized by their use of collage, papier colle, and monochromatic palette, creating a sense of depth and spatial ambiguity. Through his innovative approach to representation, Braque challenged traditional notions of art and paved the way for future movements such as Constructivism and Suprematism.
