Lead Acid Batteries, also known as lead-acid accumulators, are a type of rechargeable battery commonly used in automotive applications such as starting, lighting, and ignition systems in cars, trucks, and other vehicles. These batteries consist of a series of plates made of lead and lead dioxide, which are submerged in an electrolyte solution of sulfuric acid and water. During discharge, the lead plates chemically react with the electrolyte to produce electricity, while during charging, an external power source is used to reverse this reaction and restore the battery's charge. Lead Acid Batteries are popular for automotive use due to their low cost, high reliability, and ability to deliver a large amount of current in a short period of time. However, they do have some limitations, such as a relatively short lifespan and lower energy density compared to newer battery technologies like lithium-ion.
