Colour Field Painting
Post-Impressionism refers to an art movement originating in France towards the end of the 19th century, as a reaction against Impressionism. It encompasses a diverse range of styles and techniques, but is generally characterized by an emphasis on emotional intensity, symbolic content, and individual expression. Post-Impressionist artists often used bold colors, strong brushstrokes, and unnatural forms to convey their personal feelings and ideas, rather than merely capturing the visual appearance of their subjects. This movement had a significant impact on subsequent art movements such as Expressionism and Surrealism, which also prioritized subjective experience and emotional expression over objective representation.
