Vector Art

Definition of Vector Art as it relates to Art, Digital Art, Graphic Design

Matte painting is a digital art and graphic design technique that involves creating expansive, detailed backgrounds and environments which appear realistic but are entirely artificial. It is an artistic discipline that requires a deep understanding of composition, color theory, lighting and perspective to seamlessly integrate with live action footage. Matte painters use a variety of tools including digital painting software, 3D modeling programs, and photo manipulation techniques to craft their scenes, which can range from simple landscapes to complex cityscapes or fantastical worlds. The goal is to create a convincing and immersive backdrop that enhances the storytelling and visual impact of a film, game or other visual medium.
