Orangutan
Orangutans are highly intelligent, gentle apes native to the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra in Southeast Asia. They are one of our closest relatives, sharing about 97% of our DNA. Orangutans are currently critically endangered due to habitat loss from deforestation for palm oil plantations and other human activities. These majestic creatures spend most of their time in trees, where they build nests to sleep in. They have a unique red color due to the oils in their fur. Orangutans are known for their distinctive long, hanging arms and their ability to use tools. They have complex social structures and exhibit advanced problem-solving skills. Efforts are being made to protect orangutan populations and their habitats through conservation programs and rehabilitation efforts.
