A healthcare proxy is a legal document that allows an individual to appoint another person to make medical decisions on their behalf in the event that they are unable to do so. This appointed person, known as a healthcare proxy or healthcare agent, is authorized to make decisions regarding the individual's medical treatment and care based on their wishes and best interests. The healthcare proxy is activated when the individual is deemed incapacitated or unable to communicate their own medical decisions.
