Harp Seals
Harp seals, also known as saddleback seals, are medium-sized pinnipeds that belong to the true seal family. They are known for their distinctive black harp-shaped markings on their back, hence their name. Harp seals are found in the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, where they inhabit icy waters and spend much of their time on pack ice. These seals have a thick layer of blubber to insulate them from the cold temperatures of their environment. Harp seals are known for their striking appearance, with silvery-gray fur and large, dark eyes. They feed primarily on fish, crustaceans, and other marine life, using their sharp teeth to catch and eat their prey. Female harp seals give birth to their pups on the ice, where they nurse and care for them until they are ready to swim and hunt on their own.
