Harbor seals, also known as common seals, are marine mammals that belong to the Phocidae family. They are characterized by their sleek, torpedo-shaped bodies, short flippers, and spotted coats that range in color from light gray to brown. Harbor seals are found along the coastlines of the northern hemisphere, including the North Atlantic, North Pacific, and Baltic Seas. They are adept swimmers and spend much of their time in the water hunting for fish, squid, and crustaceans. Harbor seals are known for their curious and playful nature, often seen basking on rocks or ice floes in groups, known as colonies.
