Haitian Vodou

Haitian Vodou is a syncretic religion that blends elements of West African Vodun, Catholicism, and indigenous Taino beliefs. It involves rituals, ceremonies, and spiritual practices aimed at connecting with and honoring spirits known as lwa. Practitioners, known as Houngans (male priests) and Mambos (female priests), communicate with the lwa through offerings, music, dance, and possession trance. Vodou is deeply intertwined with Haitian culture and history, playing a significant role in the country's struggle for independence and resistance against colonial powers.
