Hagfishes

Hagfishes are marine craniates belonging to the class Myxini. They are eel-shaped, scaleless, and have a cartilaginous skull. Hagfishes are known for their ability to produce copious amounts of slime as a defense mechanism. They are scavengers, feeding on dead or dying fish and invertebrates. Hagfishes have a unique feeding mechanism where they burrow into their prey to consume them from the inside out.
