Guadalupe Fur Seals

Guadalupe Fur Seals are a species of marine mammal that belong to the family Otariidae. They are distinguishable by their thick fur coats, external ear flaps, and ability to rotate their hind flippers forward for walking on land. Guadalupe Fur Seals are primarily found along the coast of California and Mexico, with a population concentrated around Guadalupe Island. They are known for their playful and social behavior, often forming large colonies during breeding season. Despite being protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act, Guadalupe Fur Seals face threats from entanglement in fishing gear, habitat degradation, and climate change.
