Frameshifts

Frameshifts are genetic mutations that occur when a nucleotide (the building blocks of DNA) is either inserted or deleted from a gene sequence. This disruption causes a shift in the reading frame during translation, leading to a completely different amino acid sequence being produced. Frameshift mutations can have significant effects on the resulting protein, often leading to nonfunctional or altered proteins that can cause a variety of genetic disorders.
