Etching Techniques
Etching techniques refer to various methods used to create designs or images on a surface, typically metal, by using acid to cut into the material. This process involves applying an acid-resistant substance called a ground to the surface, then using a sharp tool to scratch away the ground and expose the metal underneath. The surface is then submerged in an acid solution, which bites into the exposed areas, creating the desired design. Different etching techniques include hard ground, soft ground, aquatint, and drypoint, each producing unique effects and textures in the final artwork.
