Elephantiases

Elephantiases is a group of parasitic infections that can cause severe swelling and thickening of the skin and underlying tissues, typically affecting the legs and genitals. The condition is caused by filarial worms transmitted through mosquito bites, leading to blockages in the lymphatic system. Symptoms may include extreme swelling, skin ulcers, and thickened, hardened skin. Treatment usually involves medication to kill the parasites and manage symptoms, but in advanced cases, surgery may be necessary to reduce swelling and improve quality of life.
