Echinoderms Reproduction

The reproduction of echinoderms involves a process known as external fertilization, where eggs and sperm are released into the water column for fertilization to occur. Echinoderms are able to regenerate lost body parts, including reproductive organs, which aids in their ability to reproduce asexually. Some species exhibit a unique form of reproduction called fissiparity, where the body splits into two halves, each regenerating into a new individual. Echinoderms also have complex larval stages, such as the bipinnaria larva, which undergoes metamorphosis before settling as adults.
