Eastern Orthodox Monasticism
Eastern Orthodox Monasticism is a religious practice within the Eastern Orthodox Church where individuals commit to a life of asceticism, prayer, and dedication to God. Monastics live in monasteries or convents, following a strict daily routine that includes communal worship, work, and study. They strive for spiritual growth and seek to cultivate virtues such as humility, obedience, and love for their fellow monks. Monastic life is centered around the pursuit of union with God through contemplation and prayer, with the ultimate goal of achieving theosis, or union with the divine. Monastics often take vows of poverty, celibacy, and obedience, renouncing worldly possessions and desires in pursuit of a deeper relationship with God.
