Earstones

Earstones are small, calcareous concretions found in the vestibular apparatus of the inner ear of vertebrates. They are composed of calcium carbonate and protein, and are involved in the detection of gravity and acceleration. Earstones play a crucial role in maintaining balance and spatial orientation in animals, including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. The size and shape of earstones can vary among species, but they all serve the same fundamental function of detecting changes in head position and movement.
