Dugongs and Manatees
Dugongs and manatees are marine mammals known for their large, elongated bodies, paddle-like flippers, and herbivorous diet. They are part of the order Sirenia and are closely related to elephants. Dugongs are found in warm coastal waters of the Indian and western Pacific Oceans, while manatees inhabit shallow rivers, estuaries, and coastal marine waters in the Americas, Africa, and the Caribbean. These gentle creatures are known for their slow, graceful movements and are often referred to as "sea cows" due to their grazing habits. Both dugongs and manatees are listed as vulnerable or endangered species due to threats such as habitat loss, boat strikes, and pollution.
