Dogwatches

Dogwatches are short periods of time, usually about two hours each, during which members of a ship's crew are assigned to keep watch on deck. These watches typically occur in the evening and early morning hours, allowing the rest of the crew to get adequate rest. The term "dogwatch" originates from the maritime practice of dividing the day into seven watches, with the two shortest ones referred to as the "dogwatches."
