Diffraction

Diffraction is the phenomenon of a wave, such as light or sound, spreading out and bending around obstacles or through small openings. This bending and spreading occurs when the wave encounters an obstruction or aperture that is comparable in size to the wavelength of the wave. Diffraction can result in interference patterns, such as those seen in the colorful bands produced by light passing through a narrow slit or around a sharp edge. This phenomenon is fundamental to understanding the behavior of waves and is commonly studied in the fields of physics, optics, and acoustics.
