Common Hippos
Common Hippos are large, mostly herbivorous mammals native to sub-Saharan Africa. They are known for their barrel-shaped bodies, short legs, and large mouths with tusks that can grow up to 20 inches long. Common Hippos spend most of their time in water, where they can hold their breath for up to five minutes. They are social animals and live in groups called pods, typically consisting of females and their offspring. Despite their size, Common Hippos are surprisingly fast on land and can run up to 19 miles per hour. They are considered one of the most dangerous animals in Africa due to their aggressive nature, especially when they feel threatened or when protecting their territory.
